Merlene Emerson: It is vital for the Government to ensure we consider climate change when deciding major infrastructure projects such as roads, airports and power stations
"... As you are aware, the new Planning Bill creates a new Infrastructure Planning Commission that is undemocratic and unaccountable. It also creates a system of national policy statements which outline separate, rather than integrated, policy on major infrastructure projects. This is expected to be voted on by Parliament in November.
I ask that you work to include an amendment to the Planning Bill which makes explicit the need to consider climate change on the face of the Bill. I believe it is vital for the Government to ensure we consider climate change when deciding major infrastructure projects such as roads, airports and power stations." wrote Merlene.
She has yet to receive a reply to her letter.
