Responding to the recommendations of the Government's Climate Change Committee, Susan Kramer MP, who leads the fight on Heathrow expansion for the Liberal Democrats commented;
"I wonder how long the business community will continue to support the case for a new runway when it is the economy making all the sacrifices to allow it to go ahead.
"Unless the Government scraps the plans for a third runway it is business and taxpayers that will be hit with the costs of expanding aviation.
"If the Government wants us to believe it is serious about tackling climate change it must halt the plans for a third runway altogether."
The Government;'s Climate Change Committee reported on 09 September that at current rates, if the aviation industry fails to cut its emissions, the rest of the UK economy will have to reduce emissions by 90% by 2050.
