The Brackenbury Residents Association reports that The Secretary of State has called in the planning application for the Goldhawk Industrial Estate to which the Council gave consent in September. This means that the application has been put in cold storage until such time as the enquiry is held.
The planning decision, one of the more controversial planning decisions taken by the Council, has been fiercely opposed by residents of the area, by many of the 20 businesses which will be forced to vacate the industrial estate, and by the customers of those businesses.
The Residents Association had gone as far as to employ a barrister to provide an opinion as to whether the Council would be justified in refusing the application, and his view was that there were sufficient grounds to refuse. Despite this, and a catalogue of errors and misleading material in the planning application, the Planning Committee agreed to the scheme, and Leader Cllr Stephen Greenhalgh (at the Quiz the Leaders Meeting) claimed that this was to avoid the costs of an appeal if they refused it.
John Denham, Communities and Local Government Minister has now decided that the decision must be reviewed.
Meanwhile the Residents Association are pursuing a complaint of maladministration against the Council in respect of the Goldhawk application.
