The Tory administration is boasting of how it is reducing Council Taxes by reducing the Council's budget. While we agree Labour left the Council in a mess, Hammersmith and Fulham Liberal Democrats are concerned that many of the co-called "efficiencies" are very real cuts to services.
The Tories are proposing to cut over £3 million from Community Services and another £3 million from the Environment Department. "We think these funds should be used to help vulnerable residents and to make our borough a better place to live. By all means freeze the Council Tax rate, but let's use the money saved through real efficiency improvements to create more activities for young people, improve recycling, provide community skips, or create more cycle lanes. This money should not be used by the Tories as a bribe for the upcoming local elections," says Henrietta Bewley, chair of the H&F Lib Dems.
