Parents in Hammersmith and Fulham have been left disappointed and frustrated after only about half of the pupils in the borough made it into their preferred secondary school, well below the London average of 65 per cent for first choice admissions, and down from 62% last year.
Commenting on the news, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Hammersmith , Merlene Emerson said: "These figures represent more than just family upset; they reveal the failure of the Labour Government to create sufficient school places after more than 13 years in power.
"Under the Liberal Democrats, schools would be granted an additional £2.5 billion to create additional places, increase the number of pupils achieving good grades and to close the attainment gap between poorer children and their wealthier classmates. This will give parents what they want - a fairer schools system where all children can fulfil their potential."
