H&F Lib Dems have warned that the Council's failure to fix potholes properly is endangering cyclists and other road-users, after a spate of recent injuries, and concerns expressed by residents in Fulham Lib Dems' Street Survey 2010.
Paul Kennedy is angry that the Council is neglecting its duties to residents and road-users, and frustrated that when he tried to use the Council's website to report a problem, it gave an error message:
"On Friday morning I saw a fellow cyclist seriously injured after he hit a pothole in a cycle lane. It had supposedly been filled just a few weeks ago. Skimping on materials and labour is a false economy if it leads to botched repairs. It's bad enough having to cope with all the broken glass the Council sweeps into cycle lanes. And this wasn't some quiet side-road, it was a marked cycle lane on the Fulham Road, which is one of the main roads through the Borough."
Reuben Gibbons, a student at Imperial College, added, "I live in Townmead Road, which is dangerous for cyclists at the best of times. All the potholes here are a menace, but especially when you are travelling home at night or in the rain or in busy traffic, when seeing them and avoiding them is most difficult. And bicycle lights alone can't make up for inadequate and broken street lighting."
