Royal College of Music students living at College Hall in Goldhawk Rd have offered their musical talents in support of their neighbours' in the campaign to overturn H&F Council's decision to allow the proposed redevelopment of the Goldhawk Industrial Estate. The controversial planning decision was "called in" and residents are now fund-raising for a barrister to represent residents' views at the Public Inquiry which takes place between 25 May and 02 June.
The students, all talented young musicians at the Royal College of Music, will perform a concert on Friday 14 May.
Ingrid Clement, a 19 year old violin student, has organised a string quartet and a piano quintet to perform pieces by Haydn and Vaughan Williams. Her fellow student, Will Kunhardt, 20, is conducting Schubert's 'Death & The Maiden', arranged for string orchestra by Mahler.
"We are always looking for performance opportunities" said Ingrid. "We need to play in public, so we are very happy to do what we are passionate about, and help to raise money."
The battle between residents groups and Hammersmith & Fulham Council and developers, London Newcastle, over the plan to turn the Industrial Estate, with its 200 jobs, into a residential development has been going on since 2008. The council has been accused of ignoring the views of residents and experts to push through an inappropriate development. The residents were successful in their appeal to the Secretary of State to block the decision but now need to cover the cost of opposing the Council at the Public Inquiry.
The fund-raising concert is at Holy Innocents Church, Paddenswick Rd, W6 at 7.30p on 14th May.
Advance Tickets will cost £8, (or £10 on the door). Or order tickets by e-mail at: goldhawkestateappeal@googlemail.com, or phone 056 0254 4057 (local rate).
