Nathalie Bristow, Liberal Democrat Candidate in Askew Ward
Askew Ward was ALMOST Lib Dem; In 2005, we lost one seat by 29 votes!
There are no Lib Dem Councillors on the H&F Council. This is what we find residents most shocked about on the door-step and is why so many are saying they will vote for us to get a Lib Dem on the Council.
The Liberal Democrats have over 4,000 Councillors on local authorities across the UK, and thousands of Liberal Democrats serve on Town, Parish and Community Councils. Following this year's local elections, we became the second party of English Local Government - in June 2009 we had 3,759 councillors in England to Labour's 3,743 and Lib Dems lead or run 48 councils across England.
In Wales, Lib Dem Councillors either lead the administrations or are part of them in a majority of Welsh Councils and following the historic elections of May 2007, under the Single Transferable Vote (STV) system, Scottish Liberal Democrat Councillors are now involved in the administration of 13 of Scotland's 32 councils.
We have a strong and proud tradition in local government. Liberal Democrats are responsible for a combined budget of over £12 billion at a local government level.
For the Liberal Democrats, local government is key - localism, community politics, devolved power are all hallmarks of the Liberal Democrats approach.
We are very active within the Local Government Association and the Welsh Local Government Association in identifying and promoting best practice, and the Association of Liberal Democrat Councillors provides advice and support to councillors and local campaigners.
BUT BUT BUT there are NO, NOT ONE, NADDA Lib Dem Councillor in H&F.
We want to win for the Lib Dems to speak for the millions who vote for us in unwinnable seats. We can act as a moderator in the Conservative/Labour political battleground. To get things done!
A vote for Lib Dems will benefit H&F borough-wide in having the Lib Dem voice of fairness which has been so successful in Councils all over the country.
On May 6th - not long now! - VOTE LIB DEM!
