More people voted for us than ever before. Across the country we received a record 7 million votes, compared with 9 million votes for Labour and 11 million votes for the Conservatives. Here in Hammersmith and Fulham we once again increased the number of votes we received.
We made significant progress in a number of Council wards, but yet again Liberal Democrat voters were denied representation on the Council by our discredited voting system. The Conservatives will therefore continue to enjoy a distorted majority on the Council. We will continue the fight to reform our broken politics both nationally and in our borough.
We are heartened by the success of our colleagues in Kensington and Chelsea, who built on the historic Colville by-election last July by winning a second council seat there, and in Ealing where they won an additional two seats.
Through our local campaigns, we will continue to stand up for local residents against this unaccountable Tory-led administration, and and fill the gap left by the ineffective Labour opposition, with an aim to bring local democracy back to Hammersmith and Fulham.
