Liberal Democrat Fulham spokeswoman Dr. Tamara Dragadze said "While we are committed to the need for the Tideway Tunnels, and we agree that construction sites must be designated, at the moment Sands End looks a most unsuitable choice"
" We understand that there will be a consultation on 6th and 7th of April at Hurlingham and Chelsea School. We expect a very clear and full explanation by Thames Water for the choice of Sands End rather than anywhere else and we will respond accordingly."
Dr Dragadze urged H&F residents to make time to visit the school on one of these days. She stressed: "It is crucial to choose sites for the building works in the areas least likely to cause long-term disturbance to residents and disruption to local businesses and traffic. In Sands End a large number of residents will be close to an enormous construction site. These include families in social housing whose options to move are very limited, and young families in new housing developments whose homes will be devalued. For these reasons and more, we believe that Sands End is the wrong location."
The Thames Tideway Tunnel (aka the super-sewer) is intended to capture overflows of untreated raw sewage which spill into the river whenever a heavy rainfall overloads our 19th century sewer system.
