Hammersmith Town Hall Redevelopment - Ask the GLA and Eric Pickles to review this decision

December 8, 2011 8:30 PM

Last week seven Hammersmith and Fulham Councillors on the Planning Applications Committee (PAC) voted to allow a planning application that will give them new Council Offices at no cost if they let the developers build several hundred luxury flats on the site of the Pocklington Homes for the blind and the cinema.

The Save our Skyline group remind us that this is not the end of the process.

"Two courses of action are now available. Request the Secretary of State to call it in for an inquiry and, at the same time (and before 16 December), ask the Mayor to instruct the Council to refuse permission. Letters may be sent by email.

* Thousands of people said NO to the Hammersmith Town Hall plans
* Over 8,000 signed petitions to oppose the development and save the cinema
* Over 1,000 wrote to the Council to object to the planned tower blocks, land-grabbing of a riverside park, unwanted supermarket and forced rehousing of blind people
* English Heritage and 35 other national and local heritage groups and residents' associations condemned the plans
* BUT seven councillors from Fulham IGNORED the opposition and the evidence and said YES

HOW CAN THAT BE RIGHT?

Hammersmith Council may have approved the Town Hall plans, but they're not the final authority.

Please write immediately to the Greater London Authority, asking them to direct a refusal of the application:

The official deadline is 16 December but the mayor is expected to consider it sometime next week.
