The Save Our Skyline campaign in Hammersmith is today able to celebrate the decision by H&F Council to withdraw the Town Hall Redevelopment planning application.
Hammersmith and Fulham Council's planning applications committee had approved the project two weeks ago despite objections from more than 30 amenity groups, and hundreds of local people, and a fiercely critical speech from a previously loyal Conservative councillor.
According to the BBC, the application had to be referred to the Mayor of London because it would impact on the Mayor's London Plan.
When informed that the application did not meet City Hall's planning rules and was unlikely to be approved by the GLA, H&F Council withdrew the application. They have declined to say whether it will be dropped altogether, or modified and re-submitted.
Residents opposed to other major projects in the borough which are supported by the Council, such as the Earls Court project will take heart from the news that H&F Council's planning process is subject to effective outside scrutiny.
