On Wednesday 30 November, 7 members of the Planning Committee of Hammersmith and Fulham Council voted to approve the revised proposals for the redevelopment of the Town Hall Site, which will knock down the cinema, demolish 54 Pocklington Trust homes for the blind, displacing the residents, insert a bridge over the A4 and land-grab part of Furnivall Gardens, and replace them with 290 luxury flats in blocks and towers up to 15 storeys and 8000 sq ft of office space at no additional cost to the Council. which is sponsoring the scheme which its own Planning Committee is examinging.
One Conservative Councillor, Cllr Lucy Ivimy, was courageous enough to defy her party leadership and speak up for the thousands of local people and dozens of local organisations which oppose the scheme, and her speech to the committee is attached.
