The Liberal Democrat candidate for the general election constituency of Chelsea and Fulham is Dirk Hazell. The Conservatives believe that Chelsea and Fulham is their "safe seat", because Labour have given up here. But we came second in the old seat of Kensington and Chelsea, and we are the only party actively challenging the Conservatives at local level.
Unlike other parties, all our Council candidates in Fulham Town ward live locally:
Harry Braund - has worked as a businessman in the UK and overseas, and has lived in Fulham for nearly 20 years. He lives in Fulham Road, SW6."
Paul Kennedy - is a trained scientist and lawyer, and has lived in Fulham for nearly 20 years. He and his family live in Barclay Road, SW6.
Dr Graham Muir - has lived in Fulham for nearly 20 years and works as a consultant. A widower with teenage children, he lives in Epple Road, SW6.
Key points to remember for the elections on 6 May:
1. The Liberal Democrats are the party of local democracy, and came second in Town ward last year. All our Fulham candidates live locally and if elected we will work hard for you. We are the only party committed to fairness, sustainability, free education, and fixing our rotten system of safe seats and divisive Labour/Tory games. Only Lib Dem councillors can be trusted to listen to local residents and keep in touch, through local surveys, consultations and Focus leaflets.
2. The Tories currently hold all 17 council seats in SW6, and have been taking the residents of Town ward for granted. The local party appears to be dominated by a right-wing clique linked to Lord Ashcroft and the US Republican party, and intolerant of dissent even from its own members. More than ever, we need independent-minded Lib Dem councillors to stand up for local residents and hold the Tory administration to account.
3. Labour can't win here and don't deserve to. They have only been able to find 5 local candidates who live in SW6 for the 17 seats available in Fulham, and none of their candidates for Town ward even lives in Fulham. All their attention is focused on trying to save their remaining seats in Hammersmith. They came 3rd behind us in the Fulham Town Ward by-election in October 2009, when their vote plummeted. Only the Lib Dems are challenging the Tories here in Fulham.
