Freeze Rail Fares!

The rise in RPI inflation means rail fares will shoot up this year. The Lib Dems would block this rise.

When combined with rising food prices and mortgage rates, this rail fare rise would leave families £300 a month worse off.

In the middle of a Cost of Living Crisis, we should be doing everything we can to make sure commuters and families can continue to get to work. Otherwise this price rise amounts to a tax on work, particularly negatively impacting those who cannot work from home.

A season ticket from Slough to Imperial Wharf will now cost a staggering £371 more a year. A simple train ride over the river from Clapham Junction to Imperial Wharf will now cost £109 more per year.

One of the most effective things any government can do to help get the economy back on track is support working people. But this Conservative Government won't lift a finger to stop these rail fair increases.

The Liberal Democrats are clear - we call on the Government to freeze rail fares now.
